Excessive Sweating (Axillary Hyperhidrosis)
Excessive Sweating, known as hyperhidrosis, can be located in some regions od body, such as: armpits, groins, hands, feet and scalp, and can be very embarrassing, with possible social and professional harms. Botulinum toxin is extremely efficient in armpits, groins, hands and feet, reducing drastically the excessive sweating, mostly in up to 100%. Although, in hands, it is possible to cause a slight reduction of muscular strength.
The product is applied by injections in the previously anaesthetized skin, what makes procedure the less painful possible. The maximum effect occurs in about two weeks and its durations may last up to 8 months. On the other hand, another technique used to treat the excessive sweating, the surgery (video assisted thoracic sympathectomy) can cause compensatory hyperhidrosis in another region of the body (like the trunk) as a side effect in 20 to 80% of the cases. When botulinum toxin is used for treatment, side effects practically doesn’t occur and the results are excellent, improving the quality of life.
